TVexe is an online video streaming app that's designed to work without a TV card or PCIe tuner, which makes it compatible with almost every modern Windows PC.

Since the app captures standard digital data feeds, you won't have to worry about whether a particular channel is broadcasting in NTSC or PAL format. Watching television channels from around the world is as easy as selecting a particular country and enjoying the feed. You'll be able to find broadcasts in many languages, including:

  • English
  • German
  • French
  • Spanish
  • Italian
  • Russian
  • Turkish

Unfortunately, an overwhelming majority of the feeds are simply news analysis and many of them have ceased to work since the app was originally released. Those who greatly enjoy a traditional television experience through their computers will want to ensure they constantly update the feeds to prevent service disruptions. As long as you remain connected to the Internet while using it, however, the app is usually able to remove inactive channels a few times a week.

You may actually end up getting much more use out of the app's built-in online radio tuner, which features a wide variety of content. It includes links to over 3,000 different live streaming radio stations. While this isn't something you couldn't just as easily find on the web, it helps to be able to listen to music or talk programs online without having to bring up your browser.

In fact, TVexe is sort of a miniature version of a browser. It works with Flash, Windows Media and HTML5 technology in the same way that a dedicated browser would. Users can search for a station by name or genre, which makes it easy to find new things to listen to.

Many of the stations that the app indexes feature online-only feeds, but there are also literally hundreds that you'd find on the standard AM and FM dials around the globe. In fact, transplants might be able to stream a favorite station from across the country simply by searching its name.

Critical listeners will notice that the app's AM and shortwave feeds sound much better than they might be used to. Since the app tunes directly into each station's digital signal, it's able to overcome the audio problems related to traditional over-the-air broadcasts. The same goes for it's digital television feeds, which may suffer from buffering problems but won't lock up the way OTA TV signals might.

Once you find a TV channel or radio station that you really like, it's easy to return to it. It's also easy to restrict the app's results to only show broadcasts in a single language, which is perfect for those who need some practice.
